This blog will reflect the progress of my genealogy project(s). I will describe any major changes that I make on my website www.fayewest.ca and I will document how I solved some brick walls.

I have another new cousin

A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Carolyn (Kirk) Jones who is my 4th cousin.  She has shared a lot of information on Chester Royal Kirk's family.  All of it, including some photos, has been added to the Striker portion of my site.

Ron and Helen (Manery) King

I got a note yesterday from Elaine Willson advising me that her parents, Ron King and Helen (Manery) King had both died recently.  That information has been added to the Broder and Striker lines.

Lots more on the Ohio Doyles

Marty McGeein sent me copies of pages from a family Bible that belonged to Johannah Fitzgerald in 1875.  The pages list many (many, many) births, marriages, and deaths.   Using those entries as a guide, I found many (many, many) source documents on familysearch.org and ancestry.ca.

Once again there are too many changes to list here, but the Recent Updates page will lead you to them.

Striker Updates

I have added a lot of new Striker family records, primarily the families of Elisha Wellington Striker and his son Isaac Wellington Striker.  There are new people and new sources.  For details see Recent Updates (10 & 11 Dec 2011)

McGeein

A few days ago I got a note from Marty McGeein, a third cousin once removed on my Doyle side.  She gave me some information - enough to get me started looking and documenting.  The result is a lot of new people on the Doyle site and lots of source information for the new data.  There are too many changes to list here, but you can check the Change List for details.   Marty has promised to send more information and photos, so stay tuned.

John Broder in Atlin

Elaine Willson sent me a copy of The Atlin Claim of 1 Sept 1900 with a long report on the fire that destroyed much of Atlin, BC on 26 Aug.  This report, and two brief notices in the 22 Sep edition, confirm that John Broder's business was destroyed in that fire.

Lots of changes to the Doyle line

Today I completed changes and additions to 94 people in the Doyle site.  I added the Henry Carty and Elizabeth Dunn family. The bulk of the other changes are to the Michael Jordan family and the John Hamilton family, but there are many others as well.  See the Recent Updates for Nov 12 - 17 for a list of all the changes.

Gibson

Somehow I stumbled onto my scanty records for Cornelius W Gibson and Elizabeth Clapp. Elizabeth was my gr-gr-grandaunt.  What I had on my site raised some questions, so of course I was off on a search.  The result is a bunch of census records, some death records, and a whole bunch of new data for Cornelius and Elizabeth and their children.  In particular there's a lot of new info for their son  Douglas Samuel Gibson and his family.

Random updates

I added twelve more children for John Francis Dunn and Mary Helena Moynihan.

Steve Forrest pointed me to a tidbit of information for Gordon Hamilton; I've added a link to Queen's University on Gordon's page.

And I added obituaries for Mabel Manery, Stan Broder, and Violet Broder

Lots of Burnash changes and some others too

I added the 1871 and 1881 census images for the James Dunn family and reformatted the story on his son John's page.

There are also a lot of changes, additions, and new documents for John Francis Burnash and his family.

The changes included in this most recent update are dated Oct 12 - Oct 15.

Templeton & Jones

I added the marriage of Hannah Celista Jones to Lorenzo Templeton, their three daughters, and Celista's death registration. Lorenzo was the brother of Louisa Templeton who married Celista's brother Martin Jones.   Lorenzo and Louisa were the children of Admiral Nelson Templeton and his wife Matilda.  I have not added Admiral and Matilda to the site, but I have included their 1861 and 1871 census records as evidence of their children's parentage and birthplaces.

Jones

In the process of cleaning up some photos, I realized that I had some tombstone photos that were not included on the website.  In some cases, there is data on those tombstones that had not been included either.  So:
Then, because I'm easily distracted, I looked up the birth registrations for all of Martin & Louisa's children - Edgar and Andrew as well as John, Guy, and Ada.

Photo mystery solved

Thanks to Jerry Moore, I have finally identified all the people in the photo of John K Hamilton's family.  I've updated the image map so that moving the cursor over the faces will reveal the names.

It's another Hamilton cousin!

Today I got a note from another new cousin!  Jerry Moore is my second cousin once removed; the grandson of John K Hamilton who was my gr-grandmother's brother.  Jerry provided more information about his mother (Edith Hamilton) and father (Austin Moore) and their children.   I've added that information as well as a few census records for their family.

Census Changes

Last month I reported that  I had changed the way census records display on the site.  Today I finally noticed that in some cases the new census table was showing the wrong person as Head of Household.  I have changed the way I record census records and have republished the Doyle, Broder, and Striker lines.
