This blog will reflect the progress of my genealogy project(s). I will describe any major changes that I make on my website www.fayewest.ca and I will document how I solved some brick walls.

WOW - how long since I updated Broders?

Over the past year I have periodically made a change or two to various members of the Broder family.  I never bothered to re-build the site because each set of changes seemed inconsequential at the time.  Suddenly I discovered that the number of changes has really added up and the site hasn't been updated for a year!  So, the changes are now published - but I can't tell you in any detail what they are, because I don't remember!   They are all listed in the Recent Updates though.

Cousins' families

I've added and updated a number of records for a couple of my cousins' families.  My aunt Edna McLeod Broder is the granddaughter of Thomas Cooper and Sarah Rolston; I've added some details on their family.  I'd copied a lot of their vital records on my recent visit to the BC Archives, but of course, now that I'm home, I realize I missed a few.

I also found some vital records for members of the William James Manery family.

New Manery children

Thanks to Elaine Willson, I now have the names of William James Manery's two youngest children.  They are Ettie May Manery and Frederick Sydney Manery. These are now included on both the Broder and the Striker parts of the site.

Robert Gordon Manery

My first cousin once removed, Robert Gordon Manery (aka Uncle Gordon), died on 31 May 2012 at the age of 92.  I have updated his page and added the obittuary that appeared in the Lethbridge Herald.

Ron and Helen (Manery) King

I got a note yesterday from Elaine Willson advising me that her parents, Ron King and Helen (Manery) King had both died recently.  That information has been added to the Broder and Striker lines.

Random updates

I added twelve more children for John Francis Dunn and Mary Helena Moynihan.

Steve Forrest pointed me to a tidbit of information for Gordon Hamilton; I've added a link to Queen's University on Gordon's page.

And I added obituaries for Mabel Manery, Stan Broder, and Violet Broder

3 new documents for Broder

I've added a high school grad picture of Harold Broder,  a newspaper clipping about the marriage of Mabel Broder and Sam Manery, and an obituary for Luther Ross.

My Manery Cousins

I noticed today that my Manery cousins appear on both the Striker and Broder subsites.  While this is correct, not everyone who should have appeared was included on both sites.  I've made those corrections and now all the Manerys appear on both sites.

More BC documents

I made my annual visit to the British Columbia Archives last week and got 15 more certificates.  All of them are for various branches of the Broder family.  Primarily the Manery and McLeod families.  The Recent Updates list will lead you to the changed records.

More clippings

I've finished adding all the clippings that Elaine sent.  They all apply to the Manery branch of the Broder and Striker/Graves lines; but not all of them will show up on the site because some are for living people.  However, there are quite a few there.  The clippings also provided some additional information.

I also updated all my Birth Announcement and Wedding Invitation citations so that the names of those involved show up in the citations.

And last but not least, I've subscribed to NewspaperArchives.com so I can clip articles from the Lethbridge Herald.  Kay Manery's obituary was the first one.

Broder / Cuffe updates

I received a huge amount of information from Betty (Cuffe) Smith in Australia.  I've added 122 people to the Broder site and updated about 100 others.   I also added some census records and photos of several Co Sligo churches that I found when checking various events.

New BMD certificates

I spent a few days in Victoria, BC this week and took the opportunity to visit the BC Archives where I located 20 marriage and death certificates for people in my database.  The surnames include: Colvig, Manery, Oldham, and Pappajohn.  These records have been added to the Broder and/or Striker lines. Check the Recent Updates menu to see the specific records that have been changed.

I have also included a number of Manery descendants on the Striker line.  They were previously (and still are) in the Broder line.
